Lockdown Cooking | Honey Chilli Potato

After numerous attempts, I finally managed to make honey chili potato at home 🙂 Do check out my recipe!

What did I use?

For the slurry

  • All-purpose flour or maida – 4 tablespoon
  • Cornflour – 2 tablespoon
  • Rice flour – 2 tablespoon
  • Salt – as required
  • Water – as required

For the sauce

  • Honey – 2 teaspoon
  • Oil – 2 tablespoon
  • White sesame seeds – 2 teaspoon
  • Long cut green chili – 3
  • Chopped Onion – 1
  • Finely sliced capsicum – 1
  • Sugar – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chopped garlic cloves – 5
  • Salt – as required
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Soya sauce – 1 teaspoon
  • Chilli sauce – 1 teaspoon
  • Tomato sauce – 1 teaspoon

For the potato base

  • Half boiled thinly sliced potatoes – 4
  • Cornflour – for coating
  • Oil – for frying

For the garnish

  • Roasted white sesame seeds

How did I make it?

  • I prepared a thick slurry by mixing maida, corn flour, rice flour, salt and water. My slurry was thick enough for the potato to get dipped and not drip-off.

Potato Base

  • I cut half boiled potatoes into thin slices [ similar to french fries ] and coated them with dry cornflour.
  • After coating them with cornflour, I dipped them in the prepared slurry and deep-fried it on low flame till golden and crisp.

  • I took a pan and added oil to it. After adding oil, I added salt, sesame seeds, garlic, sugar, green chili, capsicum, onions, and water.
  • I mixed them on a medium flame and allowed the mixture to come to a boil. Once the mixture starts to thicken, I added chili sauce, soya sauce, and tomato sauce. My sauce is ready!
  • Note: if the sauce doesn’t thicken, then adding a teaspoon of the prepared slurry helps. However, this is optional.
  • When my sauce is ready, I added the fried potato and honey and gave it a mix and allowed it to absorb for about 5 minutes on a low flame.
  • Finally, I sprinkled roasted sesame seeds and served.
  • Honey chili potato is ready! ❤️
